Chapter 5: A Charming Little Place Called Café Bonheur. Romance Thriller Web Novel "I Love You Even More" by Abrar Nayeem Chowdhury. The Best Thriller Novel

The evening had settled over Seoul University, draping the campus in the warm hues of a setting sun. A soft breeze rustled the leaves along the grand corridors, and the faint scent of books lingered in the air as Samantha turned the key in the library’s heavy wooden door. The metallic click of the lock echoed in the stillness.

"Are you free now? Duty over?"

The familiar voice made her turn. She found Akib leaning casually against the pillar, his posture relaxed, his eyes steady on her. His presence carried an air of quiet confidence, but there was something else—something playful in the curve of his lips.

Samantha arched an eyebrow and smiled. "Looks like Sir is excited."

Akib tilted his head, glancing up at the sky as though seeking an answer in the clouds. Then, with a slow, easy smile, he replied, "Yeah, because I am going with the most beautiful woman. Precious. Elegant."

Samantha let out a soft chuckle. "First time?"

Akib met her gaze, his expression was both teasing and sincere. "Maybe we are going for a date. Aren’t we?"

She laughed, shaking her head. "Clever boy! No, not a date."

But she did not refute the implication entirely. Instead, she turned, her blue dress swaying slightly as she walked towards the main gate of Seoul University. The streetlights flickered to life, casting golden halos upon the pavement as students passed by in pairs and clusters, their laughter dissolving into the distance.

Akib fell into step beside her, adjusting the strap of his bag.

"New bag?" Samantha inquired, her voice carrying a note of curiosity.

"Yeah, bought it yesterday. Thought it was time for a change."

Samantha observed it for a moment, then with a thoughtful smile, remarked, "Blue suits you."

Akib turned his head slightly, watching her under the soft glow of the evening lights. "So do you."

For a moment, she said nothing, though her fingers traced the hem of her dress. He noticed. Of course, he did. A slow, knowing smile played at the corners of his lips.

"Speechless? That’s rare," Akib teased, his voice laced with amusement.

Samantha smirked but did not meet his gaze. "It’s just that I wasn’t expecting such a smooth response from you."

"And yet, you complimented me first. What does that say about you?" He chuckled, adjusting his bag strap again.

She rolled her eyes, but there was no denying the faint blush that crept onto her cheeks. "It says that I appreciate honesty."

"Then you'll appreciate this too," he said, his voice dropping ever so slightly, making her glance at him. "You look beautiful tonight."

Samantha inhaled softly but recovered quickly, shaking her head in amusement. "Flattery won’t earn you extra points, Akib."

"Who said I need points?" he countered. "Sometimes, a man just enjoys appreciating what’s in front of him."

She laughed, the sound light and genuine. "And what exactly is in front of you?"

"A woman who walks with the grace of poetry and argues like a philosopher," he answered effortlessly. "A contradiction, really. And I do love contradictions."

Samantha sighed dramatically. "I see what’s happening here."

"Oh?" Akib asked, genuinely curious. "And what is happening?"

"You’re trying to outwit me," she declared.

"And?"

"And you’re failing," she said, smirking. "Miserably."

He laughed, shaking his head. "Oh, Samantha, you are dangerously confident tonight."

"Confidence is attractive, isn’t it?" she quipped.

He stopped walking for a moment as if considering her words. Then, with a slow nod, he murmured, "On you? Absolutely."

Samantha felt her heart do an unfamiliar flip, but she kept walking, pretending she hadn’t noticed the weight of his words.

The restaurant came into view—a charming little place called Café Bonheur, known for its warm lighting and intimate ambiance. The golden glow from within spilled onto the pavement, inviting them inside.

Akib opened the door for her, stepping aside like a gentleman. "After you."

Samantha hesitated for just a second before stepping in, the soft hum of classical music greeting them as they found a quiet corner by the window. She took her seat, smoothing out her dress as Akib settled across from her. The scent of freshly brewed coffee and vanilla lingered in the air.

He leaned forward slightly, his gaze unreadable yet gentle. "So, if this isn’t a date, what is it then?"

Samantha tilted her head, a playful glint in her eyes. "A conversation over coffee. Nothing more."

"And yet, it feels like more. Doesn’t it?"

She exhaled, half smiling. "Maybe. But let’s not name it, Akib. Sometimes, moments are best left undefined."

He studied her for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Fair enough. But for what it's worth, I’m glad we’re here."

She held his gaze, and she found no need for clever retorts for once.

Because, somehow, she was glad too.

The soft glow of lanterns cast a golden hue over the elegant restaurant, their light flickering against the polished wooden tables. Samantha sat opposite Akib, the warmth of the evening pressing gently against them, the faint hum of conversations blending with the distant tune of a classical melody playing in the background.

Akib leaned forward slightly, his dark eyes searching hers with quiet intensity. "Blue is your favorite color, am I right, ma’am?" his voice carried a playful charm, teasing yet sincere.

Samantha raised a delicate brow, a small, knowing smile curving her lips. "Yes, you are. But tell me, how do you know?"

Akib exhaled a small laugh, tilting his head. "Your water bottle is blue, and your mobile back cover is blue. And," he added with a slight smirk, "you told me blue suits me. So, I was sure."

Samantha’s fingers idly traced the rim of her glass, her eyes narrowing in a mix of amusement and curiosity. "You notice everything about me."

Akib’s gaze darkened slightly, his voice dropping to a velvety murmur. "Yeah. Everything."

A hush passed between them. The world around them dimmed, reduced to nothing but the intensity of his words, the way his voice lingered—unspoken promises laced beneath each syllable.

Samantha’s breath hitched. "Everything?" she echoed, her voice softer now, almost a whisper.

Akib paused. The silence was charged, thick with something unseen, yet deeply felt. He leaned closer, his fingers brushing subtly against the edge of the table as if fighting the urge to reach for her.

"Every...thing," he murmured, his voice slow, deliberate, each letter dripping with a husky warmth that sent a thrill coursing down Samantha’s spine.

She swallowed, the air between them crackling. It was not just words—it was a confession, a silent admission of how his eyes had traced her, how he had memorized every small detail, how even now, his gaze seemed to drink her in.

A flush crept up Samantha’s neck, her pulse betraying her composed exterior. She glanced away for a moment, trying to gather herself, yet there was no escaping the way his voice clung to her skin, nor the way he looked at her—like she was something to be studied, cherished, desired.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she lifted her glass to her lips, taking a slow sip. Akib watched, his expression unreadable, but the flicker in his eyes—deep and burning—told her everything she needed to know.

"So," she managed, her voice steadier than she felt, "you really do observe everything."

Akib smirked, tilting his head. "Not everything," he mused, his tone edged with amusement. "Some things... I’d still love to discover."

Samantha felt a delicious heat spread through her. "Oh?" she teased, regaining her composure. "And what might those things be?"

Akib chuckled, resting his chin on his hand as he regarded her. "Wouldn’t you like to know, ma’am?"

Their game of words danced between them, electrified with unspoken tension. The anticipation swelled, an unrelenting tide that neither sought to break. Just as Samantha parted her lips to respond, a polite cough interrupted them.

A waiter stood beside their table, pen poised, expression politely neutral. "What may I get for you, sir, ma’am?"

Samantha exhaled, a small laugh escaping her as she turned to face the waiter, though the warmth of Akib’s gaze still clung to her like an invisible touch. And as the night stretched before them, she knew this was only the beginning of something utterly irresistible.
