The evening at Café Bonheur carried the lingering warmth of a beautiful conversation. Samantha and Akib sat across from each other, the playful banter between them dancing like candlelight. Just as Samantha was about to say something witty, a shadow fell upon their table.

“Good evening,” came the unmistakable voice of William.

Samantha’s eyes lifted, and she froze for a moment. Akib, however, simply glanced at the man standing before them. William was dressed in his usual sharp attire, but the glint in his eyes was far from pleasant.

“William,” Samantha acknowledged, her voice cool and composed.

Without waiting for an invitation, William pulled out a chair and sat down beside them, his expression unreadable. He glanced at Akib before letting out a slow chuckle.

“So… how did you two meet?” His voice held an undertone of amusement, but Samantha could sense the jealousy simmering beneath his facade.

Akib met his gaze without hesitation. “University.”

William smirked. “Ah, university. How charming. And what subject are you studying, Akib?”

“Computer Science,” Akib replied, unfazed.

William leaned back, crossing his arms. “Computer Science, huh? A field full of dreamers. Let me guess, you're planning to become a software engineer, perhaps a researcher? That’s quite… ambitious for someone who doesn’t come from money.”

Samantha’s expression hardened. Akib remained silent, but she could feel the tension rise in him. William continued, his voice laced with condescension.

“You see, Samantha, a man’s worth is determined by his success, his influence. The world does not wait for passion and talent—it bows to power. Can he provide for you? Can he offer the life you deserve?”

Samantha tilted her head, a slow smile forming on her lips. “Oh, William,” she sighed, her tone deceptively soft. “You always did love talking about wealth as though it could buy everything. But tell me, has it ever bought you character?”

William’s smirk faltered.

Samantha leaned forward, her eyes locking onto his. “I loved once, William. I loved a man who held the world in his palm yet let it slip through his fingers because he didn’t understand what truly mattered. A man who believed that wealth was power but failed to see that love is the greatest power of all.”

William clenched his jaw. “And you think this… boy,” he gestured toward Akib, “is worthy of you?”

Samantha laughed lightly, shaking her head. “William, you measure worth in the shallowest of ways. Akib does not need to prove anything to you. He is kind, intelligent, and more of a man than you ever were.”

William’s face darkened. His hands tightened into fists, and in a sudden burst of rage, he picked up the glass of water before him and threw it at Samantha’s face.

A collective gasp echoed through the café. The cold liquid splashed across her cheeks, dripping onto her dress. Akib shot up, his chair scraping against the floor, his fists tightening as fury surged through him.

“Samantha, are you alright?” he asked, his voice strained with anger.

She slowly wiped her face with a napkin and met William’s furious gaze, her own eyes icy and unwavering. Akib took a step forward, his fists raised, ready to strike, but Samantha placed a gentle hand on his wrist.

“No,” she whispered firmly.

Akib hesitated, breathing heavily, but the fire in her gaze made him pause. Samantha turned back to William, her lips curling into a knowing smile.

“Oh, William,” she said, her voice velvet and steel. “Your anger is proof of your weakness. Do you think that by humiliating me, you regain some power over me? How… pathetic.”

William’s fists trembled, but he said nothing.

“I once thought you were untouchable,” Samantha continued, her voice steady and unwavering. “But look at you now. Desperate. Jealous. Empty.”

William’s face twisted with rage. He stood abruptly, his chair nearly toppling over. Without another word, he turned and stormed out of the café, leaving behind an air thick with tension.

Akib exhaled, his fists slowly unclenching. He turned to Samantha, concern etched across his face. “Are you alright?”

She smiled softly, dabbing the remaining water from her cheek. “Oh, Akib,” she said, her voice light. “I have never been better.”

Akib chuckled, shaking his head. “You are dangerous when you want to be.”

Samantha smirked. “Only when necessary.”

And with that, they returned to their seats.
