Chapter 8: I Wish I Had Known Sooner. Romance Thriller Web Novel "I Love You Even More" by Abrar Nayeem Chowdhury. The Best Thriller Novel

The air in Cafรฉ Bonheur was still tense, though William had left. The soft clinking of cups, hushed murmurs, and the aroma of roasted coffee filled the space. But between Akib and Samantha, an unspoken question lingered in the air.

Akib leaned back slightly, his dark eyes searching hers. “You never told me about your past, Samantha,” he said gently, stirring his coffee absentmindedly. “Especially about William.”

Samantha lowered her gaze, tracing the rim of her cup with delicate fingers. A faint, melancholic smile played on her lips. “Some pasts are better left untold, Akib,” she whispered.

“But I want to know,” Akib insisted. “Not out of curiosity, but because I care. You stood up for me today, defended me... but I hardly know the storms you've weathered.”

Samantha inhaled deeply, setting her cup down. “William was my first love,” she admitted. “We met in college. He was charming, ambitious, and, at times, unbearably proud.”

Akib smirked. “That, I could tell.”

She chuckled softly, but the light in her eyes faded as she continued, “At first, I thought we were perfect. But love, Akib, is not merely about admiration. It is about endurance. And William never endured my flaws, my fears, my dreams... He wanted someone he could control, not someone to love.”

Akib studied her, his fingers tightening around his cup. “And you still loved him?”

“I did,” she admitted. “But love is only beautiful when it is kind.”

A silence stretched between them before Akib spoke again. “And your husband?”

Samantha’s lips parted, but for a moment, no words came. Then she sighed, as if releasing a weight too heavy to bear. “Mafia Don… he was different,” she murmured. “Where William sought control, Mafisa gave me freedom. He was a businessman—fierce, determined, and a man who loved without reservation.”

Akib noticed the way her fingers trembled ever so slightly as she continued. “We married young. He gave me everything I could ever ask for. But fate,” she swallowed, “was never kind to me. He died in a car accident… leaving me alone.”

Akib’s breath hitched. “Samantha…”

She forced a smile, though her eyes glistened. “Not alone, actually. I have a daughter.”

Akib blinked, absorbing the weight of her words. “A daughter?”

Samantha nodded. “She’s my entire world. My reason to keep going.”

For the first time, Akib found himself speechless. He watched her, the woman before him—so strong, so broken, and yet so full of love. He reached for her hand across the table, his fingers brushing against hers.

“You are remarkable, Samantha,” he murmured. “And I… I wish I had known sooner.”

She looked up, a tear slipping down her cheek. “And now that you know?”

Akib held her gaze. “Now that I know,” he said, voice steady, “I admire you even more.”

A soft silence settled between them, filled not with sadness, but with understanding. Samantha smiled a real, warm smile.

“Thank you, Akib,” she whispered.

And in that moment, amidst the gentle hum of the cafรฉ, something between them shifted—deeper, unbreakable.
